The nRF93M1 Development Kit (DK) is the ideal starting point for evaluating the nRF93M1 and prototyping your Cat 1 bis connected cellular IoT application.  

The nRF93M1 DK pairs the ultra-low-power nRF54L15 as a host MCU with the nRF93M1 so you can also prototype and develop your embedded application rapidly  nRF Connect SDK and Nordic’s AI assisted development flow.  

The nRF93M1 DK is flexible and also works with any other embedded or rich-OS host via the direct AT command interface, PPP, or USB — so you can prototype your preferred way. It works out of the box, with a pre-loaded Onomondo SIM card and LTE antenna included.

Quick start

Set up your kit in five steps (see the full Getting Started guide for detail): 

  1. Assemble — attach the antenna, insert the SIM, connect USB-C to your PC. 
  2. Install tools — nRF Util and nRF Connect for Desktop; 
  3. Verify — send AT (expect OK) and confirm the nRF93M1 modem firmware version. 
  4. Connect to the network — enable registration reporting, set CFUN=1, and test connectivity. 
  5. Connect to nRF Cloud — register your account and provision the device, then add it under Fleet → Devices.

Highlights:

Maintenance release with new features, corrections, and improvements for service reliability.

NTN / Cellular IoT

  • Smarter cell selection. The modem now scans frequencies to identify and select the best-quality cell, configurable via AT%FEACONF (id 8). To optimize the search time with the feature, it is recommended to limit the number of bands (AT%XBANDLOCK) and/or channels (AT%FREQRANGES).
  • Faster roaming search. Improved network search speed with certain SIM subscriptions abroad.
  • Reduced AT notification load. %MDMEV: DETECTED COUNTRY changed from an informational to a regular event.
  • Automatic profile cleanup after FW update. Existing cellular profiles are now deleted automatically to avoid format compatibility issues. Applications should verify profiles exist before use and re-create them if needed.
  • Improved NTN reliability. Fixed premature attach-context expiry and prevented dropped NB-IoT uplink messages on power-off after transmission.
  • Greater modem stability.  Resolved rare crashes and instabilities.
  • Better PLMN selection. Fixed indefinite stalls during manual AT+COPS selection and restored missing %MDMEV SEARCH STATUS 3/4 indications.

This release is aligned with v1.2 of the nRF91x1 NTN AT Commands Reference Guide.

Some of the new features require support also from the nRF Connect SDK, and it is recommended to ensure compatibility with the appropriate version of the SDK.

It is advisable to use the latest version of nRF Connect for Desktop and nRF Connect Programmer tools.

DECT NR+ Firmware Binaries


The official DECT NR+ firmware binaries can be accessed by contacting Nordic Sales, check the changelogs for more information what the different version has introduced.

    • This release introduces comprehensive DECT MAC (Medium Access Control) layer functionality, building upon the existing PHY layer capabilities.
      This release supports star network topology.

      This firmware supports the "Release 2 of the DECT-2020 New Radio (NR) technical specification v2.1.1"

      DECT NR+ operation is enabled on frequency bands 1, 2, 3, 4*, 9 and 22. (*only on the nRF9151).

       

      Highlights:

      The MAC layer provides high-level network management, device association, and data communication services for DECT-2020 NR applications.

      • Network Management: Full star network topology support with network/cluster management, discovery, and RSSI scanning.
      • Device Communication: Association management with up to 6 concurrent flows, using RACH (uplink) and paging (downlink).
      • Data Link Control (DLC): Four service modes (Transparent, Segmentation, ARQ) with advanced flow control.
      • Advanced MAC Features: Link adaptation (MCS & power), HARQ, MAC-level security (Mode 1), IPv6 support, and configurable power saving (PT mode).
      • Operational Modes: Supports Fixed Termination (FT) parent and Portable Termination (PT) child roles.
      • Clock Synchronization: Clock synchronization to external 1PPS input and 1PPS output generation.
