Introducing the Yuwell Smart Ring R3 

Launched in April 2026, the Yuwell R3 is an AI-powered smart ring for continuous, round-the-clock health monitoring. Crafted from titanium alloy and silicone, it is lightweight and unobtrusive, allowing it to be worn throughout the night without disrupting sleep. As a Health monitoring ring designed as a wearable for sleep disorders, it serves users seeking better rest and early detection. 

Multi-modal sensors integrated into the ring enable 24/7 monitoring of heart rate, blood oxygen (SpO2), heart rate variability (HRV), sleep stages, and sports and activity data. But the R3 goes beyond simple data collection. Drawing on the same algorithm used in Yuwell’s medical ventilators, the ring can identify sleep apnea risks and deliver AI-generated health alerts. It also provides atrial fibrillation (AFib) risk prompts, bringing hospital-level cardiovascular monitoring to the everyday consumer's finger via a cardiovascular monitoring wearable that doubles as a wearable for sleep disorders. 

All data is synchronized to the Yuwell Health App, giving users convenient, on-demand access to their health insights. With up to seven days of battery life on a single charge, the R3 addresses one of the most persistent friction points in wearable health technology – reliable battery life. Its implementation of Bluetooth® LE wearable technology within an ultra-low-power health wearable architecture ensures continuous data synchronization and extended use. 

At its core, the R3 is powered by Nordic Semiconductor’s nRF54L15 System-on-Chip (SoC). 

Fitting a medical device inside a ring 

Designing a health-monitoring wearable in the form of a ring is fundamentally different from building a smartwatch or a fitness band. With the battery, processor, and sensor all having to fit inside a tiny device, this leaves very little room for compromise. 

“As a miniature medical wearable, we set strict requirements for core components,” explains Wang. 

He adds, “Top priority was given to extreme power efficiency,” affirming that the chip had to operate at microampere-level current consumption during sleep monitoring to sustain a seven-day battery life in an ultra-low power health wearable. 

The second challenge was size. The package needed to fit the ring’s ultra-compact internal structure without sacrificing performance. 

Third, reliable Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) connectivity with low latency and strong anti-interference was essential to maintain stable round-the-clock data transmission to the companion app, ensuring the Health monitoring ring functions as a dependable cardiovascular monitoring wearable. 

Fourth, sufficient computing power and memory were required to run Yuwell’s self-developed AI algorithms and to support simultaneous multi-sensor data fusion. 

Finally, as a long-term wearable in close contact with the skin, the device demanded reliability. This means wide-temperature adaptability, low electromagnetic emissions, and stable operation over extended periods. 

Hence, finding a single component that met all these requirements simultaneously was the central challenge in the development of R3.

Why Nordic

Yuwell’s engineering team evaluated wearable-grade chips extensively before settling on Nordic’s nRF54L15 SoC as their preferred solution.

As Wang explains, “Nordic components were definitely our first choice. After long-term evaluation on wearable chips, we confirmed that the nRF54L Series excels in power consumption, dimension, computing power, and wireless stability, fully complying with the strict standards of health-monitoring smart rings.”

The nRF54L15’s specifications address each of Yuwell’s requirements directly. Its ultra-low power consumption – 0.7µA in sleep mode and 4.8 mA during Bluetooth LE transmission at 0 dBm TX power – is the enabling factor behind the R3’s seven-day battery life. Equally critical is the physical footprint. At 2.45×2.25 mm, the nRF54L15’s Chip Scale Package (CSP) is among the smallest Bluetooth LE SoC packages on the market, enabling a high-performance wireless solution to fit in a ring without sacrificing sensor integration or battery capacity.

On the processing side, the 128 MHz processor, 256 KB RAM, and 1.5 MB NVM (non-volatile memory) give the R3 the headroom to run Yuwell’s sleep apnea and atrial fibrillation detection algorithms, on-device and in real time. The chip’s robust Bluetooth LE connection ensures stable all-day data transmission, while its high-level integration simplifies PCB layout and streamlines supply chain management for a Bluetooth LE wearable technology solution.

An equally important consideration was the quality of the development ecosystem. Nordic’s nRF Connect SDK provided mature reference designs and well-documented tooling. Thanks to this, Yuwell engineers were able to focus on challenges related to sensor matching and algorithm integration – the genuinely novel parts of the R3’s design – instead of low-level wireless firmware. Plus, Nordic’s technical team provided timely support on Bluetooth LE power optimization, antenna design, and firmware debugging throughout development.

The nRF54L15 also generates extremely low heat in operation. This is an important consideration for a device worn against the skin for hours at a time. It should also be noted that users reported no discomfort even when wearing the ring overnight.

Moving forward

With the R3 now on the market, the impact of the nRF54L15 is clear. It delivers up to seven days of battery life, reliable Bluetooth LE connectivity for continuous health data sync, and faster processing for advanced sleep analysis, including apnea detection and early risk alerts. Also, its built-in compute headroom enables future OTA updates without the need for hardware changes. More broadly, the R3 represents a significant step toward everyday clinical-grade monitoring, offering a discreet, comfortable device that helps users manage chronic conditions and detect issues early through combined cardiovascular and sleep tracking, while showcasing the potential of ultra-low-power Bluetooth LE wearables for long-term health care.
